Canon vs interpretation

The color-to-trait names come from one in-game source: the Ball Game flags in Snowdin. Everything beyond that — personalities of the fallen humans, the order they fell, and the red soul's "Determination" label — is fandom interpretation. Useful, beloved, but not canon, and labeled as such across this site.

FAQ

What do the soul colors mean in Undertale?

Six colors get trait names from the Ball Game: orange = Bravery, yellow = Justice, blue = Integrity, purple = Perseverance, green = Kindness, light blue = Patience. Red is never named in-game; fandom maps it to Determination from the True Lab lore.

Is the red soul officially Determination?

No — that's the key nuance. The Ball Game jokes that red's trait is "Ball Game" and lists only the other six. "Red = Determination" is a fandom and original-quiz interpretation drawn from the True Lab, where determination is the defining substance of human souls.
